Introduction to Automotive Engines with Different Energy Sources

After more than a century of development, automobiles have developed many engines that use different energy sources. Different energy vehicle engines represent the diversity of automotive power systems, and each technology has its unique working principle and environmental impact. Here are their introductions:

1. Pure electric vehicles:

Pure electric vehicles rely entirely on the stored electrical energy from the battery as their power source, providing electrical energy to the electric motor through the battery to drive the motor and propel the vehicle forward. The rechargeable batteries for this type of car mainly include lead-acid batteries, nickel cadmium batteries, nickel hydrogen batteries, and lithium-ion batteries.

2. Hybrid electric vehicles:

3. Fuel cell electric vehicles:

Fuel cell electric vehicles use hydrogen, methanol, natural gas, gasoline, and other reactants to combust with oxygen in the air in the battery under the action of a catalyst, thereby providing power for the vehicle. These types of cars are essentially one of the electric vehicles, but they can be converted into electrical energy through chemical reactions, while pure electric vehicles rely on charging to supplement electrical energy.

4. Hydrogen engine vehicles:

Hydrogen powered vehicles mainly use hydrogen fuel cells as fuel, which can achieve zero pollution and zero emissions, making them the most environmentally friendly type of vehicle. However, the production cost of hydrogen powered vehicles is relatively high, and they are limited by storage and transportation conditions in actual production, making it difficult to widely apply.

5. Extended range electric vehicles:

Extended range electric vehicles are similar to pure electric vehicles, providing kinetic energy to the motor through a battery to drive the motor and propel the vehicle forward. Extended range electric vehicles are equipped with a gasoline or diesel engine in the body, which can be used to replenish the power of the electric vehicle when the battery is low.

6. Methanol vehicles:

Methanol vehicles use methanol as fuel, which can be burned in internal combustion engines or converted into electrical energy in fuel cells to drive the vehicle.

7. Pneumatic vehicles:

Pneumatic vehicles use high-pressure compressed air as a power source to convert the stored pressure energy into other forms of mechanical energy, driving the vehicle to operate.

These different types of energy vehicle engines represent the diversity and development direction of new energy vehicle technology, each with its own advantages and challenges, jointly driving the automotive industry towards cleaner and more efficient energy solutions.
